Android 15 2nd Developer Preview Brings Satellite Messaging And More

Google has introduced the second developer preview for Android 15, featuring several enhancements and the long-awaited inclusion of satellite messaging capability. This preview aims to address user concerns, enhance security, and refine existing features before the final public release scheduled later this year, likely between August and October.

Key improvements include better app awareness regarding service availability during satellite connection usage and the integration of satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages via preloaded RCS applications. The update also includes features such as screen recording detection for enhanced user privacy, improved reliability of contactless payments using NFC, and refined multi-language audio recognition to prevent word omissions when switching languages.

Additionally, developers gain increased access to small cover screens on flip phones for enhanced functionality, and support for the CTA-2075 loudness standard aims to provide consistent volume levels across different content. Google has also made substantial improvements to PDF features within apps, enabling support for password-protected files, annotations, form editing, searching, and text selection with copy functionality.

Public beta releases are expected to be available for testing between April and July, allowing users to preview and provide feedback on these new features before the official release.
