❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS SOUTHERN PIE
It turns out that the Apple Pie was one of the first desserts to be served in America and it’s a classic for many reasons. There are sooo many different recipes for the apple pie but this is one of our favorites. We do not par cook the apples in this pie which of course saves you time in the kitchen. This isn’t a deep dish pie, but you can make it a deep dish but you will need to add more apples.
🍴KEY INGREDIENTS
SWAPS
You can use any apples that you want to use and we have made it many times with all different types. It’s always delicious!
🍽️HOW TO MAKE
This pie is very easy if you make your own pie crust that will be the hardest part. If you buy the store pie crust that you roll out that will make it super easy.
PREPARATIONS
Peel and cut up the apples and get those ready. That will be the main prep work for this pie.
Step 1
Place cut up apples in the bottom crust.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon and sprinkle mixture over the apples.
Step3
Slice up the butter on top of the sugar mixture. Cover with the other crust. Make 3 slits in top of crust with a knife.
Step 4
Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 45 minutes. Let sit for about 20 minutes before slicing.
⭐TIP
You need to let this pie rest, as good as a fresh apple pie sounds right out of the oven, let it rest before cutting. We suggest letting it rest for a few hours.
RECIPE VARIATIONS
You can always switch it up and use different seasonings if you like or you can also make this Dutch Apple Pie, which is very different but it’s a wonderful way to enjoy apples.
SERVE THIS WITH
Well this pie goes with just about ANY meal but it’s always a toss up if people like it with ice cream or without. We love it with!
❓FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Many times if you have a watery apple pie it’s because the apples were too ripe.
We have never par cooked ours for this pie, but if they are not ripe at all you may need to.
STORING AND REHEATING
Since this pie isn’t made with any cream or custard we leave it out in a pie carrier, or just cover it with foil. We do like it heated and we will heat it up for about 10 seconds in the microwave before adding a scoop of ice cream!
