The Boys Stars Think the Show Should End With a Movie

The Boys has spent the past four seasons brutalizing, grossing out, and making its audience laugh at the absurd antics playing out on their TVs. But now that the show’s got a definitive end in sght, some of its cast think it should go big to wrap up its story. And what’s bigger than a movie?

Talking to Josh Horowitz, actors Laz Alonso (Mother’s Milk) and Antony Starr (Homelander) discussed how the show’s earned a shot to expand into a film. Alonso said he’s pitched this idea to creator Eric Kripke multiple times over the years, and without much success. His approach? “Make the last episode of season five the cliffhanger and announce the film that we’ve been filming since the beginning of the series,” he said. If he had his way, the would-be movie would also be a big theatrical film, which was enough for Starr to get behind the idea. Kripke’s managed to duck that idea, but Alonso told the crowd to push the idea to the showrunner on Twitter as a way to show support.

Plenty of TV shows have made the jump to movies, often to continue the show’s story or function as some kind of epilogue or definitive end. It wouldn’t be that out of the question for The Boys to get the movie treatment, since it’s pretty popular and it’d be a decent flex on Prime Video’s end to say its superhero show can stand with the big leagues. It’d also bring things full circle, since the show was close to becoming a film trilogy. But Alonso’s dreams have a bit of a road block: last year, Amazon got into it with director Doug Liman over Road House and it skipping theaters for a streaming launch. Exceptions could always be made, but Amazon probably doesn’t want to make that kind of gamble with one of its big franchises…or at least not without seeing audience response to The Mandalorian & Grogu first.
